A bittersweet day when End ends and so does a decade long collaboration with @nationaltheatre

What a pleasure and privilege it’s been to make this work.

6 shows left… No plans at all at present for a transfer… Who knows if an English management will ever produce the trilogy… So folks don’t assume you’ll get another chance to see the show… Sometimes End means end… #end #ntend @nationaltheatre.org.uk until 17 January 📷 Marc Brenner

Caught up with #thespywhocameinfromthecold at Soho Place and our wonderful company. I really relished it. To get close to the genius of John le Carré, his sense of story, of drama, of style, his quirks as a writer, his obsessions, his wit is a great privilege. Come see us 👀🕵️‍♂️🥶🙏🏻

The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is *the* Cold War novel. I read it as a kid and it knocked me sideways.

But that was long ago. With a stage version in the West End and a TV version pending, what does it mean now? Thoughts for @newstatesman1913.bsky.social

We are all le Carré's people now

Knocked out by David Eldridge's End at the Dorfman Theatre. We went in knowing nothing about it and realised we were basically watching a play about ourselves and people we know: the music, the memories, the locations. For people of a certain generation who would like to cry during You Got the Love.

This just arrived. Very proud to have been asked to write an introduction to @deldridgewriter.bsky.social's beautiful trilogy. A great challenge having to wrestle my turbulent love for these plays into written form.

Truly beautiful piece about Tom Stoppard by his admirer and collaborator Patrick Marber.
‘There was rage and pain and iron in him’: Patrick Marber on the great hits – and fond smokes – he had with Tom Stoppard
The director worked with theatre colossus Tom Stoppard on two smash hits. Here, he remembers their heated rehearsals, the night they stayed up watching Jaws – and the last four cigarettes they smoked ...

Anyway, this “spoilt and entitled horrible little ignoramus” just saw End at the National and loved it! Such rich but understated performances. Not seen anyone crumple their face like Clive Owen. The hour and a half flew by; I almost didn’t want it to end

Last night Stuart and I went to see End at Dorfman Theatre in London’s glitzy South Bank.
Conflict of interest as I know writer David Eldridge but this trilogy finale is superb. Clive Owen and Saskia Reeves are stunning.
