Anyone else notice the credits for S3 of White Lotus use the same sample as Burial’s “Endorphin”?

Major label rap is so stagnant rn. Big X sampled Stay Fly only last October, now Key Glock has done it. Get some new ideas!

Some days I struggle to see myself as an academic. Others – like today when I got really excited about a new magazine repository – reaffirm that I am indeed a massive nerd. Check this out: rilm.org/rapmm. Launching May 27!

Today, I launch the next stage of my PhD research into rave culture in #EastAnglia (that’s #Cambridgeshire, #Norfolk and #Suffolk) between 1989 and 2019. I’m looking for former and current ravers who partied in the region to fill in a quick online survey about their experiences.

On Transgender Day of Visibility, we celebrate Minnesota’s transgender community and recommit to standing up for our neighbors in the face of hatred.

As your Governor, I’m proud to stand in this fight with you.

Rest in Peace to Caspar Melville, one of the loveliest and warmest souls I’ve ever encountered in this sorry thing we call life. A great scholar, curious mind, and mentor to many. Devastating news, and such a huge loss 🕊️

Very sad to hear of David Johansen’s passing. For some bizarre reason the New York Dolls headlined a Cow Shed in Canterbury back in 2008. I was 16 and it was at my first ever festival. The sound in that place was awful, but their performance was sensational—something I’ll never forget. RIP 🕊️

Congratulations to BRIT winners Charli XCX (Bishop's Stortford College, £38,319 per year), AG Cook (King Alfred School, £27,747) and The Last Dinner Party (Bedales, £52,075) for showing that people from ordinary backgrounds can reach the top in pop music, that most egalitarian of art forms.

William Boyd on Desert Island Discs an absolute car crash: “We had servants but there was no tension”; “my mother moved from Nigeria to Switzerland and became more sophisticated”. How is no one checking this colonial dinosaur?

Damn. RIP, Roberta Flack. I was literally just talking about her Rock Hall induction speech for Little Richard this morning. In it, she calls out the Hall for excluding women in its first class. She died un-nominated, but left behind a formidable body of work.
