From finance to neuroscience to aquariums
The city water started becoming quite unsafe for aquariums during spring run-off a couple of years ago ... but this year the 'early winter' unsafeness is through the roof.

So weird.

This forced Quickbooks "update" is ruining the rest of my week and probably my weekend.

Holy fuck I hate them so much.

The 2nd Amendment is weird, especially since finding out that the National Guard troops weren't legally in D.C.

Next time you hear Trump use the word 'billions' as if it's a big number (it is! hence his emphasis!) realize that HE has *actually* grifted billions of dollars.

Like, many have grifted millions. Billions is thousands of millions.

Can people confirm that Kat hasn't been hacked again? Like, by double-checking?

This was *deeply* interesting, so I hope you can understand and forward it.

Citizens United was a federal case about Free Speech. But Corporation *powers* are determined at the State level. If a Corporation doesn't have a certain *power*, then its rights aren't being infringed.
We can do away with it without a new Supreme Court. Nor do we need a constitutional amendment. There’s a far simpler way to get rid of Citizens United. Let me explain. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/how-to-get-rid-of-citizens-united

It's so weird that a Republican President is rattling sabres and building background premise for an oil-based war.

Like ... who would have predicted such things?

My country is currently borrowing from Boomers to give money to Boomers. It is what it is

What's hard to calculate is what the modern distribution of assets would be if 'the Boomers' had saved more, such that this wasn't necessary. Would net government debt be higher? Would wealth be more even?

I'm inching my way through a show (won't name) and the other day I started yelling at the TV. there's so something dumb and obvious that they'd *better* not do it

I really do hate when directors deliberately hide something from the story that the *characters* know in order to surprise the audience

I'm surprised there's not a field-day of people exposing where their opponents' favorite twitter account were based.

Oh look! Another Trucker's Convoy, and nearly none of my friends have taken my advice to get a Canadian car flag

... it is so easy to lose in the long run
November 22, 2025 at 9:15 PM
For example, ordering the shooting of looters would be 'an illegal order'.

Huh. Wasn't expecting such quick movement

The only thing I knew about a house of dynamite is that it was some type of countdown to disaster, and they got permission to use Carl Sagan's pale blue dot in the trailer

That's a perfect amount of information, I loved it, my friend hated it
November 12, 2025 at 1:57 PM
Amusing that Trump has throttled the ability to do investigative reporting on the pentagon just before House of Dynamite hit streaming

I can only warn again. Trump is trying to induce Dutch Disease in Canada in order to make both Canada and Alberta dependent on the United States, and give our anti-environmentalists increased negotiating power

If you're in alberta, the nature of your spending really matters. More than you think

There is a statistical chance that these people also don't want us to be economically annexed by the United States

Oooh, I can VPN to watch Orphan Black ...
October 12, 2025 at 8:43 PM
Saw two other Canadian car flags out yesterday, so at least there are 3 of us

Shame we didn't have a pile of them out while the Ambassador was visiting Alberta. There's a lesson there.
October 12, 2025 at 6:13 PM
Make sure to drive someone to the Forever Canadian petition. I'd hate for it to be a squeaker
October 3, 2025 at 6:56 PM
The fact that I cannot find a long-form of the U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra's interview with a columnist from the Calgary Herald is a bit frustrating. Only hot takes.

With Canada Post on track to lose $1.5 billion in 2025 and roughly 11 million households, we could make up the difference by mailing about 300 Christmas cards each.

Bought Canola oil at Safeway yesterday. It was weird. All the major brands were American. And all the Compliments brand options were *not* "Made in Canada" or "Product of Canada".

Worried they buy our Canola and sell it back to us too.
