NEW ANALYSIS: China's CO2 has now been 'flat or falling' for 21 months

* Down in 2025
* Still below Mar 2024
* Clean energy wave a key factor

If this is China's peak (TBC) it's the climate story of the century so far…

Musk giving up on Telsa being a real EV company is genuinely depressing.

Whatever you think of his hideous impact on the world, it was surely better that he was focused on massively increasing EV uptake rather than this nonsense.

Stephen Miller is such a wild extremist: "You have immunity to perform your duties, and no one — no city official, no state official, no illegal alien, no leftist agitator or domestic insurrectionist — can prevent you from fulfilling your legal obligations and duties.”

NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.

@petermckillop.bsky.social on climate politics in 2025 is a must read.

"Concern for our atmosphere, oceans, and changing climate are now at the bottom of every Western business, financial and political leader’s agenda. Short-term thinking rules."

I knew that #phnompenh lacked green space, but the numbers are stagering - Phnom Penh has 1.1 m² green space per capita compared to New York City's 29.2 m² and Tokyo's 5.5 m².

Another good reason to put turn the old airport into a glorious public park.

We do have it in us to be so much better.
We visited Renee Good's memorial.

There, we met a group of Somali Minnesotans — who too have been viciously attacked for weeks — warmly hosting everyone.

Flowers & stuffed animals galore.
Neighbors continually offering sambusas & hand-warmers & water.
Grief. And belief.

Easiest step towards a better world you'll ever make.
I very genuinely think answering this question is obscenely important. Even if it's something as boring as 'Musk can threaten consequences, particularly through Trump / US, if they shut it down'.

But not a single soul is being forced in any way to keep using it as a comms platform: no one.
If a website appeared overnight that gave hundreds of millions of users the opportunity to create CSAM you'd expect governments to shut it down quickly, so the question is why X gets a pass when it's done just that?

Great article on ocean acidification. Cascading impacts and damage everywhere...

Earth’s ocean has become roughly 30% more acidic than it was in the pre-industrial age - mainly in recent decades. More acidification means less carbon sequestration and damage to marine life of all types

Australia just raised the travel warning in Cambodia. I'm totally sick of Thai aggression. This conflict is confounding and full of vested interests, but at this point thailand's position is just punished poor Cambodians to achieve craven short term aims and unacceptable military goals

Clean Energy accounted for all electricity growth this year. Gas/Coal were basically a wash and will be for years to come for electricity generation.

We need to ramp up batteries because they are 90% cheaper than distribution grid upgrades which is the main reason we have rate increases.
