Hello 👋 I will soon have capacity to take on an additional project or engagement. If you, or someone you know are ramping up their #datascience capability, get in touch.

Easiest method is DM, email, stopping me in the street, flagging me down in moving traffic, or failing that, telephone.

If SQL, R, Python and ChatGPT were people. This is how old they would be.

In my latest blog I test the use of {ellmer} with 'seed' values to improve reproducibility in LLM responses for data analysis. Based on helpful suggestions from my below post. www.deanmarchiori.com/posts/2025-0...

AI is a bust: www.abc.net.au/news/2025-02...

Contrast this with an actual game changing technology like social media - people were fanging for accounts. Parents were asking their kids to help them get online. Nobody was forced onto social media, and charged an extra 40 bucks for privilege.
'Arrogance is astounding': Microsoft subscription price hike brings backlash
Microsoft has increased the price of its Microsoft 365 subscriptions, which it says has new AI features, but the price hike caused consumer outrage.

Ever look at reviews online? Don't be fooled by average star rating - the number of reviews matters too! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ (2)

💡 The higher up you are on this chart, the higher your chance of a really bad stay. It turns out you really need 20+ reviews before you can rely on the star rating

I love the way academic papers in the mathematical sciences really ground you before confounding you. First line in the Introduction: "Many of us are familiar with fruits and vegetables"

A favourite restaurant of our family has a menu item which reads: "Chicken Parmigiana with chips and salad or vegetables" and the logical ambiguity is so good we talk about it every time we visit.

As a data and analytics person embedded in the business, I’m often involved in robust discussions with IT over access to software & data. It can be frustrating but @deanmarchiori.bsky.social has some great tips on dealing with this conundrum

Just a reminder that LLMs don’t aim at the truth. Generate is the whole game. Hallucination is a feature, not a bug.
I’ll go further: hallucination is just what LLMs *are*. It’s the whole thing! When they get things right and when they get things wrong, they’re doing the same thing. You can get lots of useful things out of them, but you have to understand that first if you’re going to be successful with them.
A reminder that LLMs hallucinate all the time. Assume this happens unless you have a feedback loop to verify - or you verify it itself.

E.g. dump a large text and ask the LLM to share the most-mentioned terms, and how many times they are mentioned. Some will be hallucinated! (Happened today)

I fucking love airports. I love how weird the experience is. I love being outside of time. I love having champagne and pizza for breakfast at 6am. I love the smell of Jet A. I love being alone in a huge crowd of people all ignoring and observing each other

Whats the German word for the nostalgia I feel of 2007 electronic music & the naive lack of appreciation I had then, even though its prob just a longing for a more youthful time and could only have be born from the passage of time and I'm doomed to repeat this mistake with current new music?
