Aspiring photographer, dead mall nerd
Pinned
After well over a year of procrastination, I’ve got three new entries in the pipeline!
The unexpected side effect of having an autistic obsession with malls is that you end up kind of becoming a newspaper nerd.

Happy day at Haywood…

After a run-in that scared me out of taking pictures here last year, I finally decided to try and get my sea legs back by trekking out to Haywood.

Local Regal is undergoing a reno. Everything that made the place feel like a theater has basically been ripped out. Murals, neon, games, the customer service desk…

Only upside is that they’re putting in recliners.

30 years ago this year, Dillard’s closed its door at McAlister Square for the final time. The Little Rock chain had only been at the mall for five years.

Despite years of exposure to the elements and a renovation to the building, the scar from their sign survives.

Hop the bunny trail

These tiled rabbits can be found in the "Marketplace"department of select former Dayton-Hudson owned department stores, introduced by the tail end of the 80s.

For those celebrating, I hope you have a Happy Easter!

21 Isn’t Forever

Forever 21 is all but toast as a company at this point.

Part of me is mourning the loss, because their clothes were a huge help to me in rebuilding my wardrobe after coming out.

Another part wanted to see them go for being notoriously unethical.

Worst part? I’m still torn.

I keep asking myself if this is innuendo on the part of the editors, or is my mind just in the gutter.

Hub City Heartbreak

Spartanburg’s only surviving mall has seen much better days. The property sold to Namdar Realty out of foreclosure last year, and has continued on a downward spiral since.

The last Jarman has fallen.

Jarman Shoe Co. was founded in 1924 in Nashville, Tennessee as a shoe manufacturer. The company grew quickly, taking on the General Shoe Company name in 1931.

Genesco would introduce the Journeys brand in 1986, and it would ultimately end up being the dominant name.
