A choice between nature and housing is a false dichotomy.

We’ve signed a letter organised by @cieem.bsky.social stating how the government can achieve both by working closely with ecologists 🌍
Housing🤝Nature

To deliver much-needed housing while ensuring that our natural environment is protected and enhanced, the Government must work closely with ecologists, planners, landscape architects and other environmental experts.

Rachel Reeves has claimed that 'The balance has gone too far in the direction of always protecting every bat and every newt.'

The monitoring data on the state of bats and amphibians in the UK says otherwise

Nature is not a blocker to growth.

The UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has claimed that 'The balance has gone too far in the direction of always protecting every bat and every newt.' But how can this statement be true when the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world?🌍

A roller coaster day following the #CANBill second reading in parliament. In the end the vote was postponed to July.

A disappointing outcome given the urgency of the climate and biodiversity crises but some rays of hope from the cross-party support and grown up debate.

@zero-hour.bsky.social
The health of UK nature is deteriorating rapidly and today’s stalling of the #CANBill keeps our wildlife firmly stuck in the legislative equivalent of the A&E corridor.

@zero-hour.bsky.social

Still, the cross-party support for the bill gives hope for an healthy, ecologically resilient future 🌍

The new IPBES report says what the @britishecolsoc.bsky.social and many others have been saying for a long time, that the crises we face (biodiversity, climate, water, health, food) are all interlinked and cannot be tackled in siloes. Crucially it also spells out these complex links + ways forward 🌍
Today sees the launch of the IPBES #NexusAssessment, a landmark global assessment of the interlinked crises of biodiversity loss, climate change, health, food and water.

But what does it mean?

Read on to hear from @carolinehowe.bsky.social (our new Vice President) & @sebdunnett.bsky.social

Not all climate change solutions are equal.
Great piece from @rickstafford.bsky.social on what climate solution pitfalls we should look out for as #COP29 negotiations head into the endgame.

Including an overreliance on carbon capture tech, outsourcing emissions and badly implemented NbS.

A real joy to edit this wonderfully written piece by @ymalhi.bsky.social on what exactly goes on at COPs and why they have value beyond the less than inspiring headline outcomes
