For some students, going to school when you are unable to read, is frequent and repetitive trauma.

My district’s Special Education dept is being audited by a national org this week, including days of interviews with relevant stakeholder groups. Not surprised to hear there were no planned interviews with disabled adults who had received services.

There are now.
Witnessed a fight where a disabled person asked folks to stop saying "special needs". Parents of disabled kids screamed it's a better word then disabled. A good reminder that abled parents of disabled children can do a lot of harm by assuming they know just as much about disability as the disabled.

Last spring, Minneapolis Public Schools faced a $100M+ budget deficit just as it brought in a new superintendent. I submitted a records request for documents given to the superintendent when she started. This is what I found out…

This is a concise, useful piece about cuts recommended last year v those actually made. Which might be a peek into what *could* be back on the table this coming year?

As MPS’ ability to continue funding operations out of reserves ends, difficult decisions are being made.

Class sizes being raised this year to “cap” under MFT contract was one such decision. @mwhitler.bsky.social
