Thats the last of our tall moorings recovered. In the next six months we will calibrate the measurements and then release the next 26N AMOC time series update. @noc.ac.uk

Chris Cardwell is an Electronic Engineer who is working on a prototype remote telemetry system for use on the RAPID moorings and in the wider oceanographic community.

Outside of the current expedition, he is found developing novel oceanographic sensors, samplers and observing systems.

Being an RSE isnt always just sitting at your desk. This week I aided in the deployment of the RAPID 26N WB2 sensor mooring for monitoring the change in the AMOC by optimising the tools used to verify and log the sensors going on to the mooring, all whilst aboard RRS Discovery.

My first research expedition was only 36 years ago, but the ship did then still use a paper chart recorder for bathymetry. i spent many hours watching the chart so that the towed undulating CTD (SeaSoar) did not hit the sea floor!

The RAPID-MOCHA-WBTS time series of the Atlantic overturning circulation will soon reach 20 years (started in 2004) thanks to the many people (crew, officers, students and researchers) who have participated in the research expeditions that regularly maintain the observing array.
The next RAPID 26N AMOC expedition will sail from Fort Lauderdale on the 11th December 2024. Updates to follow.

In the end, the Gulf Stream is *not* slowing down and the #AMOC ... just marginally. That's fascinating and relevant for climate modeling and the current and future needs for ocean observing!
