An interesting review of a new book by Cornelia Kemp that challenges the widely accepted timeline of early photographic history. Kemp argues that two Munich-based scientists, Franz von Kobell and Carl August von Steinheil, produced photographic images as early as March 1837 -

And the Gioli book because he was such an interesting figure in Italian experimental cinema during the 1970s. If you don't already follow Sabzian you should!

"The Rebirth of Suspense" will be a must read for me because it examines the concept of suspense through its manifestations in contemporary films often categorized under "slow cinema".

Such a great list of new books on the cinema - "The Rebirth of Suspense: Slowness and Atmosphere in Cinema" and "When the Eye Trembles: The Cinema of Paolo Gioli" look particularly great.

Hiroshige’s "Eight Shadow Figures" - essentially a how-to guide for making entertaining silhouettes. I love the grid layout and how it creates a clear, almost “comic strip”‐style sequence for us to follow. From the collections at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
