The July-August copy of the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer has the 2025 MN Fish Art Contest winners. Check out this badass Muskie art by Dashell Topley, the grades K-3 winner. Really captures the fish well.

I just got my hands on this slice-of-life comic by S.E. Case, a cool former coworker from my La Crosse Tribune copy desk days. #WeReadsComics

I picked up Xtreme X-Men vol. 2 when it came out last year. I’m actually reading it now. Other than Mekanix, it’s all new to me.
Happy #WeReadsComics day, everyone.

Got sad word that Burl Gilyard, a beloved colleague from Minnesota Daily days and a fixture in local business journalism and music scenes, has died. Burl had chronic hereditary health problems but works his ass off for decades despite them. One of the sharpest, driest wits out there.

An overcast morning means I can start my work day in my favorite chair in the office without the sun searing my eyes.

Getting in with this just before Wednesday ends, but I’m going to start reading Black Cloak vol. 1 right before bed. Hopefully those shadowy figures are more menacing than scary. #WeReadsComics

I recently picked up this copy of “The Complete Frank Miller Batman,” which is a collection from 1989.
I love when I find collections of 1980s comics that were printed in the ‘80s. The paper and color seem closer to how the comics originally looked and makes the experience richer.

This is my dog, Zeke. He’s getting X-rays today for a 12-week check after knee surgery. We’re hoping to get clearance for zoomies. He wants to zoom.

A member of Congress questioning the head of NPR shouldn’t make this mistake, but it illustrates a problem journalists have when we talk about journalism: Many people outside the industry don’t understand our words, which makes it hard to explain what we do.
oh my god -- Comer thinks "editorial standards" literally refers to standards for editorials and is corrected by the NPR head

I’ve needed something fun to read lately. I just finished a few trades of Wilson’s Ms. Marvel, and now I’ve just started vol. 4 of Lumberjanes. It’s been a bit since I read the start of the series, but I liked that and a return to camp should be fun. #WeReadsComics

While I’m disappointed in the Iditarod’s decision to end Quince Mountain’s race, I’ve had a blast following him, Pepe and the rest of his team.
The #UglyDogs are great and made following this race so much more fun.

I’m going to start reading “Mary Tyler Moorehawk” tonight. I’m not yet sure if I think you should do so, too, but I am excited to start reading.

I finished watching the original run of “The X-Files” last night. The season 9 episodes weren’t bad TV, but they often felt like they were from a show that I just wouldn’t have kept watching.

F&C has another deep dive into development in a city. This time it’s Cottage Grove, where I ate Thanksgiving dinner.

Had my second Thanksgiving dinner of the weekend tonight. I really need to find more reasons to cook a turkey throughout the year.

I didn’t read much X-Force during Krakoa, but I’m fixing that now and really enjoying Ben Percy’s run and these messy characters.

While I’m looking forward to a four-day weekend, stuffing a week’s worth of work into three days is draining.

Leeann Chin has a billboard up at the end of my block. To get to the closest of their restaurants, I think I’d need to drive past half a dozen independent Chinese restaurants, and I just can’t imagine ever doing that.
