I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

My secret to checking the accessibility maturity of a design system? Check its focus styles. Good styles can be an indication that the team understands the nuances of good, inclusive design. If focus styles have gaps, it usually a sign of more gaps elsewhere.

Today I described the “soft no” of organizations when you ask for better accessibility priorities.

It’s very rare that management says they don’t care about accessibility, it’s very common that they don’t actually find or prioritize it.

It’s a soft no.

I'm thinking of redesigning my site and putting it in a CMS again instead of finishing the three draft blog posts I have going. Send help.
