"we live with the Five Guiding Principles and it works for us" according to the Archbishop of York. Oh really??? I would suggest that the words 'works' and 'us' are both doing some pretty heavy lifting here! For whom does enshrining inequality 'work'?! @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social

Yesterday we took young people from across the groups we run ice skating. I’ve done a fair few ice skating trips over the years and there’s always beautiful moments of young people overcoming their fear of the ice, or more confident ones helping less confident ones. Yesterday was the same - heroes.

When I was interviewed for my current youth work role in the Church of England I was asked “what do you think is the biggest challenge the CofE faces re children’s and youth work?”
I answered that a church that is scared of decline and so pursues growth at all costs will likely crush or harm 1/2

I was so sure I wasn’t going to decorate for Christmas this weekend, then someone sent us a tiny tree in the post and things escalated and I’m not mad about it (though it’s possible that Biscuit is, just a little)

This is the time of year when my kids l get given their parts in the nativity. Every year I remember the time I was given the role of “Patrick Store” (a legally safe parody of Patrick Moore) and I still wonder if my primary school teachers expected me to have any idea who that was.

Upside of Blue Sky - replies to posts aren’t full of vitriolic hate and despair worthy comments.
Downside of Blue Sky - the actual real world news that gets shared remains despair worthy.

Youth services might have been decimated but tonight in our little coastal town a group of older men in the community came to youth club to teach the young people woodwork and it was sooooo lovely. They all made a birdhouse together. It was perfect.
