My best mate used to wind people up by arguing that that if there was an Illuminati they have overseen a couple of centuries of things like massively decreased child mortality and improving living standards. That he thought they were doing quite a good job and would quite like to join them.

If I were PM of Canada I would offer to have a referendum for each province to join the US but only if the border states had a referendum to join Canada. I'm sure every referendum would fail, but also that the Trump administration would be caught trying to fiddle things to ensure no states left.

Here we go. "No better example" This is going to be the new "bat tunnel". The project was abandoned by Hitachi because the UK government wouldn't provide the financial support they wanted, not because of concerns about the Welsh language. Lazy uncritical reporting: it's all in the public domain.

Today’s post tells the stories of two playgrounds, but it’s really about the imminent collapse of local government.
The end of the playground
In which one playground shuts and another is sealed off from the public before it even opens, in a chilling warning for the future of local government.

@milmillington.bsky.social I gave my mum my copy of TMGAIHAA after my dad died. She finally got around to reading it and while visiting for Christmas was telling me how much she loved it! This is fantastic, because now I can get it back.

@ianvisits.co.uk I just noticed that Google Maps has a branch of the Mildmay line running from Camden Town to Willesden Jct via Primrose Hill, and I remember you talking about this before. Are there scheduled diversions coming up, or is this just a Google booboo?

This is one of the most well-written explanations of certain kinds of AI errors I’ve seen to date. (The whole article is great too.)
