Evernote wants $310 Canadian for "Advanced?" You guys still haven't gotten your text-format icons right!

12,000 "workspaces," huh?

As my dad said when offered overpriced sports tickets, I wouldn't pay $310 to see the Detroit Lions play the twelve apostles.

Canada needs to take see the invasion of Venezuela for what it is - a deliberate attack on the international rules based order. We have a bandit nation on our border and we need to be ready for whatever comes next.

Venezuela - The Lesson for Canada
Make no mistake, the attack on Venezuela by the Trump regime is not about removing a rogue leader; it is a deliberate attack on international law.

*** Tangent Alert ***

After reading a few comments (and posting my own), I recalled a candidate referral I learned about in the late 70s, when I worked in Amtrak's corporate training department.

We were next door to the personnel department, and I got to know some of the people there.
This article advocates for the “Faculty Merit Act” that would — get this — require all faculty applicants to submit their *SAT* scores. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Holy shirts that’s hilarious.

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

In case you haven't gathered all your supplies for New Year's Eve, here's a fine version of a traditional melody to that song by Robert Burns.

Every other Christmas or so, Robert Frost ambles in for a visit, and I remember three-cent trees and dollar friends.

The city had withdrawn into itself And left at last the country to the country; When between whirls of snow not come to lie And whirls of foliage not yet laid, there drove A stranger to our yard, who ...

I don't like traveling on holidays, but this is the kind of song that makes the effort bearable.

Yet I'm all but surrounded
By the tears and embracing
By the joy unbounded..."

Happy birthday to someone who's brought great pleasure to untold people--both directly, through his teaching and his books, and indirectly as others benefit from the first group's following his signature wish, "Happy cooking."

It took more than 12 years after saying "in the public square... the days of fat, balding Irish bishops are over" for this FBIB to get nudged off of that square.

Now he has more leisure to continue praising "modern-day St. Paul" the same Charlie Kirk who called Pope Francis a Marxist.

I’m impressed with Susie Wiles’s “candor,” though the term that floated into my mind was “mikewashing.”

She’s just an admin, right? None of this is her doing, much less her problem.

She has merely done whatever her grudge-ridden, needy, unfit, destructive wanted.

Not all that surprising, but detailed and interesting. I have a family member still using the PC version of Picasa — all photos stored locally.

Why your early 2000s photos are probably lost forever
If you used a digital camera in the early 2000s, there's a good chance whole chapters of your life have been erased.

I'm not Irish. I can't speak #Irish, but I love being able to converse in French. For about a week I've been energized by the enthusiasm and advocacy of Hector Ó hEochagáin in this segment from the Ireland AM television program:

Merriam quits the high-stakes world of lexicography to teach at a college in Springfield, MA…where Webster just became the head librarian.

She shows him that ‘love’ isn’t that hard to find…if you know where to look it up.

“A Merriam Little Christmas 2: Collegiate Edition.”
“Have Yourself A Merriam Little Christmas”

Merriam, a career-oriented lexicographer from the city, returns to her small town for the holidays and meets Webster, a ruggedly handsome librarian, who shows her the true DEFINITION of Christmas.

I saw mention in my feed of a boss who created a nickname for himself and tried to get his staff to use it.

Didn't work.

But it reminded me of the best names I ever heard for a Right Hand Guy / Bad Boss pair:

"Moose and Squirrel."

This is a *fabulous* test of the Frost Giants of Autocomplete: if they're wrong in stupid ways for stuff you know, why would you use them for stuff you don't?
Also I check to see what it hallucinates about me and/or my work, because that's a useful way to gauge how little to trust it on subjects where my domain knowledge is less complete than it is about, well, me.

What are the mitzves of Thanks Giving, a festive meal, to eat the turkey bird, to hear the story of thepilgrim, to watch the football game. And some say to argue with an uncle.

Imagine if a Democratic member of the House named Schmay Schmiggins had treated a citizen wearing a "TRUMP 2028 2032 2036" t-shirt in this manner.

The entire Freedom Caucus would have rushed out with fixed bayonets.
Shame on Rep. Clay Higgins & shame on anyone who thinks this is acceptable.
This man didn’t just cast the lone “no” vote on exposing a global sex-trafficking network… he also grabbed a citizen for daring to ask a question he didn’t like. I hope this young man presses charges.
