After WWII, Contreras-Bozak dedicated decades of her life to volunteering with the Department of Veterans Affairs. She founded a chapter of the WAC Veterans Association in Fort Lauderdale in 1989 and the Society of Military Widows in 1998. She died on Jan. 30, 2017, at the age of 97. /end
