Aargh, it's been too long without any hobby progress now so I thought I'd share some WIP photos of the Wolf Guard I'm currently painting (at a glacial pace). Bodies are more or less done - on to arms and heads!

Haven't painted in a few days, but when I sat down for a session last night I discovered that my old Russ Grey (left) had undergone some kind of weird alchemical reaction and separated the pigments and started to clot. No amount of shaking turned it back to normal. Had to get a new one (right).

Played the last round of our Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game escalation league yesterday, and ended up playing in the finals against Elronds Rivendell Knights! Sadly the sneaky elves got the better of me despite me killing every single one of them, but alas, it was a lot of fun!

I went even more nuts with the bases! They’re deeper recessed for water effects, also added hanging moss and lots of green muck so they all look freshly risen from the ooze. My fave undead. Love the mummy/zombie look. As ever sculpts by @mad-elf.bsky.social

I went even more nuts with the bases! They’re deeper recessed for water effects, also added hanging moss and lots of green muck so they all look freshly risen from the ooze. My fave undead. Love the mummy/zombie look. As ever sculpts by @mad-elf.bsky.social

The Balrog may be incredibly powerful, but he is also incredibly expensive, and my goblins lacked the maneuverability to handle the enemy cavalry. My brilliant opponents deftly fed him sacrificial infantry, and I lost both games. I had a lot of fun despite his poor performance though!

Next game day in the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game escalation league is coming up, and I finished the Balrog. Having him on the board is going to be quite a change for my Moria goblins.

AWWOOOO! I succumbed to the calling of the wolf and just had to paint some Space Wolves. I haven't painted Space Marines in a looong time, but I have been craving these new models ever since they were released. I expect it to be a fun little side project. More to come!

Played my first Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game game, and I won! My Moria goblins managed to beat a lovely painted Rohan force, mostly because of my amazing luck with the dice. Don't think I've ever rolled this many sixes in a game. It was a lot of fun!

Even though painting Space Marines was my entry into 40K, the Eldar were my first true love. These two Striking Scorpions I painted in 1994, and I remember that I was very happy with the edge highlighting - a technique I had recently learned.
