conversely, werewolves automatically solve this issue because they're generally only "contagious" for lack of a better term at night, during the full moon, and are animalistic rather than intentionally seeking out people to consume. most werewolves are turned on accident.
like okay if you're in a world with more than like, 10 vampires. and vampires are feeding all the time. and vampires live forever. and biting someone at all makes them a vampire. you are going to have a real issue with vampire population very quickly.

the method is only vaguely alluded to (something to do with being bitten, unclear otherwise) but god i can't talk about vampires being turned without referencing mignon. the ritualisticness, the eroticism, the gore and blood, the way it shows that being turned is being completely remade. moans.
"you have to get sucked dry and survive to be turned" "it's venom the vampire intentionally doles out under specific circumstances" "you have to exchange blood" "only alpha vampires can turn people" "vampires take oaths not to bite people, and if they break it they and their fledglings are killed"

a lot of neovampire lore i kind of acknowledge as trying to make vampirism less horrific so it's more marketably sexy. but honestly i feel like the shift in how vampires get turned to something more intentional and ritualistic was just a logical choice.
