i don't think i'm aromantic but i really understand their ideology when the topic of dating comes up. people talk about wanting a partner like it's an object you can buy from the store and not another human being that has wants and desires and a rich life outside of you.

when i see people say stuff to the effect of "when will someone come along who loves me the way (character) loves (love interest)" i always kind of want to tug them aside and say. hey. are *you* loving people like that though.

i was thinking about how despite the tension of the ambiguous intimacy of a perhaps unusually close friendship being one of my faaaavorite forms of intimacy to write and read about i don't really get much opportunity for it due to the nature of like. the general couples i read and post about.
