I make a living dinking around with computers. My hobbies are reading, writing, gardening, photography, trying to fall asleep at night, and trying to stay awake during the day.
In many ways, Star Wars mirrors my personal journey: peaking in the 1980s, almost two decades of bliss, a few nasty episodes near the turn of the century, a decade or so of reprieve, and then a sequence of desperate attempts to squeeze meaning and monetization out of it all.

It's fantastic how in about a week I've already eclipsed the number of followers and their level of engagement here on bsky that I had on twitter and threads *combined*.

Saw a hawk while out on a walk this morning. Then saw a dead branch that looked like a strange bird.

It’s my traditional day of going nowhere near anything resembling a shopping mall.

People tend to fixate on the big problems in their lives, even when those problems are not really very serious, and lose sight of the many positive things for which they could take joy.

Step back and look at the big picture.

And give thanks.

Funny how you can think you know a sibling after being raised together, sharing common beliefs and interests and whatnot, and then, after more than 60 years, you accidentally discover that for most of their adult life they’ve been keeping their peanut butter in the fridge.

Looks like the arc of the moral universe is going to wriggle around for a while before it gets back to bending toward justice.

Putting the refresh button at the lower left, where I usually scroll with my thumb, explains why I never get past the top of my feed.

I'd like to say hello to everyone, and also apologize in advance for having the social graces of a recovering USENET user.

I miss those innocent days when we all thought Sarah Palin was as bad as it would get.

Anonymity is cool, but it'd be nice if I could find the BlueSky accounts of my Friends From The Other Sites.

In the meanwhile, here I am, using my real name, posting things that will show up on a background check by a prospective employer someday.

I hope they have a generous sense of humor.

What I find strangely discomforting is that it's obvious that he isn't executing some elaborate, ingenious plan that the Heritage Foundation et al spent four years perfecting.

A week after the election, he's out of ideas and picking his cabinet from People Whose Names He Can Usually Remember (tm).

Just checking in to say hello.

I clearly need a new pic for my avatar.
