🚨 The Government has just announced that free school meals eligibility will be expanded to cover all children living in households that receive Universal Credit.

This is a very positive move, marking a significant step towards taking hunger out of the classroom 👇🧵

‘The LEANS curriculum introduces neurodiversity concepts, and explores how they impact primary school experiences. Importantly, LEANS shows how we can hold a positive attitude towards neurodiversity, while also recognising the challenges faced by many children in school.’

I always bear this in mind, as to me it's a key tenet of Educational and Child Psychology.

Similar to our family sayings of:

"A stitch in time saves nine" and "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Creating meaningful belonging, and "mattering" is so vital.

Lots of conversations in group supervision this week about CPD. This year is HCPC renewal, that means 2.5% of EPs will be asked to submit their CPD log. Does anyone have a CPD audit tool that can be used to help inform CPD needs and strengths? #edpsychs #CPD #HCPC @edpsy.bsky.social

Fab coaching session with @fionacoley.bsky.social this week. Really helped provide a sounding board, direction and intentionality. Came away with reflections towards making work work for me. Recommend her coaching style: Great rapport but with firm positive challenge. Rare mix. #edpsychs

#edpsychs Does anyone have some useful primary aged resources to help an ELSA in discussions with a child to help them understand and process their father coming out recently as a gay man? The mother has asked for ELSA support. Typically I would consult the LGBTQ+ resources -Stonewall, books etc?

‘If you see something that’s not right, we need to challenge it.’ A critical review and qualitative exploration of Educational Psychologists’ perceptions of social justice and practice in local authority services in the West Midlands
AimsThere has been relatively little research into social justice in educational psychology in the UK. A qualitative exploration of Educational Psychologists (EPs’) views of social justice in educational psychology practice in England was undertaken, aiming to comprehend how EPs understand and define the term in relation to their role; and what EPs can do to work towards social justice, noting perceived barriers to working towards social justice in EP practice.Method11 EPs employed in four West Midlands Local Authorities (LAs) took part in semi-structured interviews, analysed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis.LimitationsThis was a small-scale exploratory case study design. It was likely to have recruited participants who were already attuned to social justice agendas. Thus, responses were relatively uniform in their orientation. The study also did not capture the voices of EPs working outside of local authority settings, or privately, or outside of the West Midlands who also may have significant contributions to how best to facilitate social justice work.ConclusionsThe final psychological framework presented may inform EP reflection, to develop and further refine cycles of EPs’ own social justice praxis.
