I think in the end, the Western Bulldogs missing finals despite a 14-9 record was the death knell for the final eight as we know it. It gave the league a window to counteract the mediocre teams in 9th and 10th playing in September argument that often was cited.

It will never happen, but as an exercise, here is a proposed route for a Flemington Racecourse line extension to the SG line at East Keilor. Stations at Edgewater, Highpoint, Avondale Heights and East Keilor.

Well that’s the premiership defence over. Calling it now. Giving up a 2.5 goal lead at home against a team that was 3-6 and in 15th spot is not the form of a genuine contender. It’s over.
