and this trait makes it soooooo much harder for him to fully fly under the radar! if he committed to hiding his past completely then he could absolutely do it, he's clever and savvy enough. but the thing is that he doesn't really *want* to do that

he talks around things and very rarely outright lies (only instance that comes to mind is when he tells balthus he's not the von riegan heir at the start of cindered shadows and even then he pulls the "haha yeah claude is a good fake name" bit)

one of my favorite Claude Traits is how weird he is about lying. it's like he's operating on classic fae rules and can only lie by omission and I know it's probably for the sake of the audience so we can figure out his backstory but I choose to take it seriously bc I think that's more interesting
