📚 School subjects and politics

A UK study found that what teens study shapes their future politics: arts & humanities students lean liberal, business & economics lean right. These patterns persist into adulthood.

Is there a need for domain-specificity when studying mental health (MH) and politics? In our study in the Netherlands, we find political mental health (PMH) is distinct from MH & has unique political correlates, from polarization to ideological extremism.

If it helps anyone sleep tonight, we don't find these percentages in our own data across Europe (May-June 2025). Largest shares of 'ambivalents' are found in Poland (30%) and Spain (34%), but overall a majority supports democracy while rejecting autocracy.
