AI this, LLM that, I'm amped for the counterculture to ignite against this banal mediocrity.

Gimme handmade zines, let's write poems on the back of receipts, a watercolor using found pigments, book clubs on subway cars; let the revolution be not just analog but antiquated, baby. Bring back quills!

The audio version of "Bunny Ears" is now up for your listening pleasure/terror! @nightmare-magazine.com's podcast team knocked it outta the park, like always. Thanks to Roxanne Hernandez for the tremendous narration.
Bunny Ears - Nightmare Magazine
Hannah’s first impression of Colden Hills Music Camp is that, for a place with “hills” and “music” right in the name, it’s too flat and way, way too quiet, and the one thing she initially thinks must ...

I had such a great time attending my first Worldcon in Seattle last weekend! At the awards ceremony itself tho there was a moment that made quite sad. Imagine how you would feel, getting nominated for this lovely honor, and then have this happen. With a little thoughtfulness we can do better
There’s nothing like attending Worldcon in-person as team @khoreo.bsky.social's representative, as one of the actual Finalists for Best Semiprozine, only for our masthead to be entirely skipped over, while everyone else’s names and mastheads were read in full, exactly as it was on the program sheet.
Had a great time at Worldcon meeting new and old faces! Thank you @emelkrishnan.bsky.social for letting me be your plus one! Glad we could trauma bond over our masthead being skipped again. I look forward to next year!

Just coming here to shout about @timchawaga.bsky.social’s fabulous debut! Noir in future Florida, diving in drowned cities, corporate shenanigans. Must Read!

I keep seeing reports of non-AI users being told that an AI detector has dubbed their work AI generated, and it makes me insane because:
1) AI detection tools *are themselves AI* and thus entirely bullshit; and
2) if an AI was trained on your works, of COURSE it’ll flag you as sounding “like” AI!

My @uncannymagazine.bsky.social novelette formatted as a series of Goodreads reviews is here! It also features probably the longest title in history 😆

It's a story about friendship, queerness, books, fandom, and generally living life and finding ways forward even when things aren't looking great.

Good writing gives the impression of having come straight from the writer's mind in one continuous burst, with no planning or editing. So does bad writing.

a gigantically beautiful story!
Doing a 2024 short story eligibility award post! It was a slower year; I had just one publication. "Here in the Glittering Black, There Is Hope" also took a long route to end up at GigaNotoSaurus, like it's protagonists, so I feel I owe it a post

I did a presentation at my church for their adult continuing education series called “We Have Always Been Here” about how LGBTQ history gets erased and people were particularly shook to learn about this guy. even folks who are fine with the gays still think trans people were invented in like 2017
It's not new. Trans people have been around as long as there have been people. And the revolutionary institute that performed the first known gender affirming surgeries, founded by a gay Jewish doctor, was among the Nazis' first targets. Learn more from @bschillace.brandyschillace.com:

Love this thread, both because it’s an interesting sub genre vibe that I had subconsciously sought, but never thought about as a grouping before,
And because I’m having waves of nostalgia/joy, remembering these fun conversations from the old blue bird/happy to participate in this experience again!
I'm gathering books for a sort of sub-sub-region of fantasy fiction I'm trying to plot out, which City of Last Chances and its fellows belong in. I've realised there's a definite tradition it belongs in, and one I always enjoy reading. In brief, the characteristics seem to be... 1/
