Half of Operations (apparently born models 😇) representing a much larger, truly amazing team behind the scenes at CSH.

A small thank-you, meant simply as that: a sign of appreciation for the people who keep things running every single day.

And for those wondering where complexity actually is…

What drives us to constantly rethink the world? 🤔 This is one of the core questions of Helga Nowotny’s new book, 𝗭𝘂𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗳𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗶𝘁 (𝘍𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘕𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘴 𝘞𝘪𝘴𝘥𝘰𝘮), which she presented at CSH last week.

🤔 Can networks be fair? This simple yet tricky question stood at the center of a workshop hosted by @lespin.bsky.social and Fariba Karimi at CSH.
Participants explored how connections shape opportunities, how inequalities emerge, and how fairness can be measured concretely in decision-making.

👏 CSH just got a major upgrade! Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating Ljubica Nedelkoska – now officially, and so thoroughly deserved, a CSH Faculty Member!

As Ljubica herself put it: The places that have shaped you end up being the places you then shape.

Great news before my winter holidays. I am honored and excited to join the @csh.ac.at as an external faculty member. Besides continuing to work at the wonderful @ddc-sdu.bsky.social (we hire, just say'in :-)) I will also be in Vienna from time to time and work with the amazing folks at both places.

AI writes about one-third of new software code in the US (29%), with large global differences (e.g., Germany 23%, Russia 15%), shows a new CSH study published in @science.org. This brings productivity gains, but so far seasoned software engineers are the only ones who benefit.

A new study published in Science shows that AI-assisted coding is spreading rapidly, though unevenly. Productivity gains go to seasoned developers

New study examines 20+ years of armed conflict data across Africa. Researchers @kushwaha.bsky.social and @spintheory.bsky.social identify three conflict archetypes, but also show that classification does not necessarily help to predict the severity of conflicts.

Reports on crypto cyberattacks often focus on the funds that disappear immediately. But an analysis of 22 major incidents (2020–2022) shows that while direct losses totaled USD 454 million, indirect losses from token price drops reached USD 1.3 billion.
