I've been working on lots of cassette decks lately. The mechanical aspects of them make it quite fun and the metrics of performance are well understood. It's cool seeing the direct results of proper maintenance reflected in the speed consistency, wow and flutter rating, and frequency response.

Removed the RIFA caps on this Apple Lisa and recapped the power and video boards while I was in there. What a wonderfully modular computer design for its time...

The Sharp SF1 is fixed!
Update: its fixed! Turns out there is a 5v reg on the TV board for the SNES to use, but that wasnt even the problem. There is a PNP transistor that pulls the 5v low for the reset button and that transistor was dead. So 5v was being pulled low 100% of the time. I'll document more about it on my site

I'm putting out an SOS for anyone in the community that knows SNES hardware like the back of their hand. I don't mean like installing mods or replacing capacitors, I need someone who could diagnose a bad CPU, bad smd transistor, etc. this is for a rare Sharp SF1 tv 🧵

Fixed a somewhat common issue on this Sony PVM 14M4J. The corners of the image were folded in on power-up and would slowly unfold into somewhat normal appearance after a few minutes. C572's responsible for this problem, its a filter capacitor on the pin amp section of the horizontal output circuit 🧵

Successfully RGB modded this RF-only TV using a board from AliExpress. Hopefully the China import nonsense gets sorted soon so I can order more of them...

Replaced all the leaking capacitors on this Apple ColorMonitor //e. It was losing its image after running for a while, now it's good to go. I love how composite looks on this, got a lot of 80s charm.

I bought a bad Walkman D6C for parts recently. The speed control is not working.. typical cause for that is fried power IC inside from connecting the wrong (or a failing) 6vdc center-negative power brick. I asked them to bundle in the PSU they used to test it, and yep this PSU is guilty of murder...

New video. This one has been in the works for over 2 years. I think this is the best story I will ever tell on my YouTube channel.

@adriansdigitalbasement.com hi, I operate the website CRT Database and saw your recent video about the 5" GE portable CRT. You mentioned wanting to submit info to the site and I'd love to make that happen. I left a comment on your video but I think it was lost in the sea. Feel free to DM me here.

This old Vectrex had a shrinking width due to failing capacitors. Replaced them all and it's good as new! I usually don't bother with full recaps but in cases like this where all the stock ones are garbage it's pretty much a requirement.

I was looking through a toy catalog for Christmas gift ideas and noticed something odd. This "Arcades in a Tin" toy is a direct ripoff of Helder's MintyPi... I'm not aware of what licensing the project had (if any) but I was very surprised to see this regardless. sudomod.com/mintypi-v3-5/

Check out this adorable little CRT I found. The ViewMagic CD-1035E. I went ahead and documented quite a bit about it on my website, let's talk about it more in a 🧵: crtdatabase.com/crts/viewmag...

If you own a Nakamichi AV-8 or AV-10 it's likely you have seen Peter Vis' article about it. It's one of the only Google results with details on these models. I got an AV-8 to hear the Harmonic Time Alignment for myself, pairing it up with my Nakamichi CR-1A tape deck and my Technics SL-D3 table 🧵

Finished restoring my #Walkman D6C. Replaced all the belts, cleaned out all the hardened old gunky lubricants and re-oiled it. If you aren't familiar with this model, it's highly lauded for its quartz controlled, very stable direct drive mechanism that provides better w&f than most fullsize decks.

Found this cute OEM belt clip for my #Walkman DC2. Originally they were sold with the WM-2 but all of the early metal walkmans of this type are the same dimensions.

Someone brought me an AG-500R yesterday and they were wondering if the tube was worn out because everything was blurry... Turns out somebody played with the focus pot adjustment hole in the back 🪛

Swapped the tube in my Sony KV-9PT60 out for a lower-hours one given to me by a friend. It came from one that had its plastic shell totally destroyed in e-waste.

Great news with this RCA Sportable. I was able to ressurect it enough to verify all the transformers and tubes are working. Now it's safe to move forward with parts orders and restoration. I brought it up on dim bulbs to give the old capacitors their best chance of performing for us one last time ❤️

Just wanted to show off the #Sony KV-25th. This is a 5" #Trinitron (6" #CRT tube 5" viewable.) This was a limited edition of 2500 to celebrate the Trinitron's 25th birthday.

This one was having color demodulation problems but @crtdatabase.com fixed it by replacing the Sanyo LA7672 jungle chip.
