If you're in the UK, please sign this open letter asking the government to correct the misleading claims they made in the AI & copyright consultation.

They said copyright law is currently unclear on this point, which is false. This misled the public.

Have you followed up?

This is still with the Senate! A regulatory moratorium preempting state laws is not a budgetary matter, and this subsection can still be stricken/removed, but senators need to know it exists, and that people care!

labour is buying into the hype in the hope of getting some of the investment going into the AI machine without really asking whether there are tangible results on the other side. this strategy is doomed.
The Labour government’s plan for economic growth, public service reform, and thus its electoral hopes, rest on the country adopting AI.

But its strategy of breathlessly bigging up bleeding-edge AI and pursuing massive data center investments is not cutting through to voters, MPs fear.
Labour’s AI gold rush gets stuck in the mud
Ministers are preparing a string of AI announcements for early June, but voters are skeptical about the technology. That leaves the ruling Labour Party with a huge problem.

Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would kill the AI industry: www.theverge.com/news/674366/...

Then maybe it shouldn't be an industry that exists in its current form?

For hailing from such "innovation-focused" spaces, you would think they could innovate an ethical model.

Artists don't create so that Tech bros can profit while we don't.
Creation is our livelihood,
our only way of making a living.
And this mofo wants us to sit down so him and his AI bros can profit?
Nick Clegg can eat a bag of dicks.
AI is a parasite.
It's an industry that needs to be killed.
Nick Clegg is wrong to say artists’ demands on AI & copyright are unworkable.

Every argument he makes could equally have been made about Napster - e.g. ‘but the tech is already out there!’

These are not reasons not to uphold the law and treat creators fairly.

I know it’s a ton that these fucks are throwing all at once. I struggle with getting the spoons for these calls too.
But that’s their plan; drown us in gut punches. But if we don’t stop them here it gets tons harder.
Make the calls.

Nothing about the U.S. budget is a done deal. It just passed the House, but it needs to survive the Senate with zero changes. ZERO. Or it goes back to the House + they have to vote all over again.

If you have a Republican Senator you need to be holding a flamethrower to their ass rn. Lock in.
