In school they called me the human calculator. They’d write 5318008 on my forehead and hold me upside down.

It’s annoying to hear “news” broadcasts refer to Kirk as a conservative commentator when they have so many correct options
- racist
- white supremacist
- Nazi

Those are the characteristics it takes for a person to be respected in modern republican circles though.

Sitting outside Sunday night smoking a “ready to start the week” cigar. I hear something and think

“What’s that horrible noise? It sounds like a rabbit being killed by a fox.”

Nope. It was the neighbor playing some Mariah Carey song.

Isaac Asimov, back in 1956, wrote a story about Ray Kurzweil's fantasy about computers, exponential growth in computing, and the singularity.

Favorite fountain pen story. I had two young women come to my office for suggestions on their stat project. I talked to them and wrote some notes. As they were leaving my office one said “Did you see his pen?” The other one said “It’s a fountain pen. All old people like them.”

The way it reads it seems Linda McMahon used A1 to help her write it.

Two questions, if I may.

1: What are some suggestions to getting stated writing with dip pens?

2: What are some good places to look for details about repairing old fountain pens. I have three of my mother's old pens, probably 1940s-1950s era to give an idea of age, that need some work.

Thanks.

I just want to say this to people who think you must have amazing penmanship to justify using a fountain pen: You don't. My penmanship is terrible.

What you need to have is a reason to use them: I write letters, I wrotet lectures and tests, and keep journals (30+ years' worth) for both of my sons

Memories from covering linear programming in a night class.

"I have a question. If linear programming involves constraints that can be binding, why isn't the stopping criterion for solutions called the safe word?"

"That's all for tonight. See you next week."

What a bunch of crap. Maybe this guy is dumbing down his comments so the people who listen to these conspiracy mongering shows get a basic idea, but he makes a large number of misstatements about distributions, how they "should" appear, and misses pointing out that the first graphs have trump ahed

Your lack of training in relevant areas shows. My experience is that people like you who claim to “play with” areas know nothing about them, so my guess is you don’t know anything about the statistics in any of these studies.

Me: Yup, they do need to stop singing the national anthem at the start of games.
