What a well expressed opinion piece by Jennifer Porritt who lives in the community of Balwin in Edmonton where this safe infrastructure is being built. 👏

Opinion: Finally, a roadway for people to walk or bike safely in northeast Edmonton
People who live in my neighbourhood deserve to have nice infrastructure nearby, just as much as anyone living on the southside.

Using 'woke' as a political 'gotcha', like conservatives love to do, is deeply racist.

Whenever PP refers to 'woke' propaganda, it's a direct reference to revert back to specific 'norms'...white supremacy.

I didn't realize earlier that Alberta ranks dead last in per student funding according to both the provincial teacher's association AND the Randian-leaning Fraser Institute, by 2024 numbers. Not exactly ideologically aligned orgs, but I guess math is math. #ableg

Ah, Budget Day, when we must simultaneously express how rich we are because we're awesome and how poor we are so we can't afford to invest in anything.
It's a delicate balance.

The Cross has always been political.

Crass partisanship has no place. But speaking truth to power, uplifting the marginalized, and declaring the Kingdom of God and the Lordship of the Crucified God are the beating heart of our call on this earth.

Calls to “keep politics out of the pulpit” almost always come from those whose power and wealth would be the most threatened by the liberative demands of the Cross on behalf of the poor and the oppressed.

Let’s be clear. Healthcare is a human right. It is a foundation, like education that builds and sustains society. It should never be about profit and it never generates revenue. It’s about a patient’s needs & not a shareholder’s return. Anyone who tells you otherwise is stealing.
