Again, it’s absolutely baffling that it’s the ATP’s tournament and the ATP’s app, and these are the crappy stats we get in this Alcaraz-Fritz match.
Not even simple winners and unforced errors. 😑🎾

Taylor Fritz is out there playing a great match.
But it must feel so much worse from Alcaraz’s point of view, given Fritz’s head-to-toe grandpa chic kit. 🎾

Fritz simply took that tiebreak. Took it. He was NOT going to let Alcaraz have a chance at it.

Time for a macchiato to watch the tennis from Turin.
Yes, it’s a home crowd advantage, but it’s kind of wild that they put Musetti-de Minaur in the prime time slot, while Alcaraz-Fritz is on in the middle of the afternoon.

The thing I forget each year in Turin is how tight the practice court is.
Feels a bit dangerous, especially for the doubles players. 😬🎾

Musetti gets a chance to hold serve in this marathon first game of the second set and goes with perhaps the worst underhand serve I've ever seen. 🤦♂️

If you look at Musetti's stats, they aren't that bad.
But he just isn't testing Fritz at all. Everything is in Fritz's wheelhouse. The first set was 6-3, but it didn't even feel that close.

By contrast, Anisimova and Sabalenka have been on the court for 35 minutes and it’s still 2-all. 🫠
In other news, Seb Korda got blitzed 6-0 in that first set in 20 minutes.

Jessica Pegula has dropped, tossed, or smacked her racket on the court after almost each point in the last game.

The Saudis got what they wanted with the WTA Finals and now their ATP 1000. They don’t need to be bothered with the training wheels anymore. 😐
Saudi Tennis Federation had three-year opt-out clause with Next Gen Finals and have decided to exercise it, thus ending agreement to host through 2027 (as @reemabulleil.bsky.social reported earlier).
ATP now starts bidding process to host the event from 2026 ⬇️

At this point, it's not even "intel" to say that Learner Tien's serve is the weakest part of his game.
It's a frequent commentator talking point.
But, the American's work has been paying off in that area, winning 77% of his 1st serve points in his win over Matteo Berrettini today.
