Inclusive Constitutionalist, lesbian who mistakenly thought she had escaped the Confederacy, community gardener, antiplutocrat, antifascist, home cook, user-experience advocate, samba drummer, and fan of fiction who aspires to the life of a house cat
Weird -- I've been white for 62 years, hang out with lefties, worked for more than a decade at a liberal-arts college, and have friends and coworkers of other races, and have never once been asked, let alone required, to apologize for being white.

Holy cannoli, what an incredible show from @belafleck.music-social.com and the Flecktones at the Miller Theater in Philadelphia tonight! Sierra Hull! Tuvan throat singers! Victor Wooten and Future Man and Jeff Coffin! Stunning musicianship! Weird time signatures! I feel so privileged to be here.

LOVE that Big Daddy cover of Life During Wartime. As much a mashup as a cover. #XPNCountdown

Maybe I missed an on-air discussion of this, but I'm wondering if some people nominated Natural Woman by Aretha only to have it disqualified because hers was the first version released. Carole King has an odd status regarding covers #XPNCountdown

Thanks to the team that made all this info available to listeners! But also, why doesn’t A Case of You, which was covered three times in the countdown, appear in the Most Covered Songs list? #xpncountdown

Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is so great from the first notes. My number one. ##XPNCountdown

Aw, I can't believe Janis Joplin's Bobby McGee ain't in the top 10 #XPNCountdown

How perfect that Patti Smith is followed by Jersey Girl? ##XPNCOUNTDOWN
December 11, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Because it so thoroughly transforms the song and adds about twice as many words as the original song had, I wasn't sure Patti Smith's Gloria counted as a cover. It definitely would have been in my top 10! I feel so privileged to have seen her perform it last weekend at the Met! #XPNCountdown

OMG How was I totally unaware that Yes had covered Paul Simon?? I LOVE IT!!! ##XPNCountdown

@wxpnfm.bsky.social , another cover of a Joni Mitchell song! Seems like a good time to ask why A Case of You, which has been covered 3x in the countdown, is not appearing in the Most Covered Songs list.
December 11, 2025 at 2:22 PM
Anyone else notice that A Case of You has been covered 3 times but does not apoear at all on the Most Covered Songs list? Why? #XPNCountdown

I had no idea that Strawberry Letter 23 was a cover and had never heard of Shuggie Otis. Now I can't wait to dive into his ouevre! OK, I can wait until the #XPNCountdown is over.

@wxpnfm.bsky.social , uh ... Iggy Pop?
December 10, 2025 at 10:41 PM
@wxpnfm.bsky.social, a great thing about this #XPNCountdown is that I'm hearing songs from genres that I usually ignore to such an extent that I can't even recognize their classics. "War Pigs," for example -- great song!
December 10, 2025 at 9:10 PM
@wxpnfm.bsky.social, What gives? A Case of You shows up with two covers (there have been three), then disappears altogether. Joni partisans are eying your stats with skepticism.

175 is in my top 10. I've always liked Elton's version better than the original -- the piano makes it sound glitzier, which seems appropriate to pinball. ##XPNCountdown

@wxpnfm.bsky.social Where is A Case of You? It has appeared three times, if I'm not mistaken. #XPNCountdown

re 281: I've been wondering about Carole King. Do her recordings of her own songs count as covers if other artists recorded them first? #WXPNCountdown

Cat Power's "Satisfaction" definitely would have been in my top 10 -- so brilliant that she denies us the satisfaction of the chorus. #XPNCountdown

LOL. Doesn't Neil Young have hundreds of unreleased songs in a vault somewhere? I can't believe he ever bothers to cover anything. #XPNCountdown
