A rock pipit on the beach, Dingle peninsula, Ireland. They seem to like to flit about from rock to rock at the edge of the water.

Some swallows from a visit to Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge in 2018, my second time there but my first visit there with a camera that has enough zoom to photograph swallows.
Two tree swallows (one on the gray side, the other shiny blue) and one barn swallow. #birds #wildlife

Yesterday a Cooper's hawk hung out for over an hour by our deck, but the screen door got in the way of taking good photos. It was so close I didn't want to move the door and spook it. So here's one from a couple of years ago that I got good pics of, on a branch a few feet further. #birds #wildlife

20 years of living in the area has not erased the joy that coming out of a tunnel to see this view brings me every time.

Yellowhead wrasses have goth-looking eyelash marks. Here's one terminal phase (which means it changed from female to male earlier in its adult life) I saw on the Florida Keys reefs a few years ago. #nature #coralreef #fish

Bee on a flower in the Middlesex Fells last spring. I think it's some sort of halictid bee but nobody else on iNaturalist has confirmed or narrowed that down yet: www.inaturalist.org/observations... #bees #nature #wildlife

Nearly 5 years ago I got this close-up of a crown-of-thorns starfish on a Maui reef; they're nocturnal and tend to hide, lucky to see it in the open in daylight. They eat coral but in small numbers they help maintain the balance of coral species. Their pretty spikes are venomous. #coralreef #nature

On a stop at Niagara Falls a few years ago, I followed some gulls with my camera as they flew over the falls and got this. #birds #wildlife
