leaning on the porch late at night after a couple beers, holding back tears: "you know every day I just try to live in a way that'd make them proud."

"them?"

"yeah..." i look up wistfully to the stars. "....FOG's 2001 adventure game classic for the Sony PlayStation, Fuuraiki......"

Through his criticism, fiction, and translation, Baxter has been doing extraordinary work for a few years now. Here are some of my favorites.
as I move increasingly quickly towards open heart surgery this year, consider....

if you like the stuff I'm doing on Tsundoku Diving and elsewhere (and you have some spare change) consider throwing a dollar or two my way! normally it'd go towards site maintenance, but you know, circumstances

Baxter wears his heart on his sleeve with everything he writes, so of course it's taken a beating in this cruel world. Read this fantastic piece on Linda Cube and then send him a few dollars if you can spare them!

It's finally happened! I've moved out of my small hometown and am in The Big City. Look forward to a year of much more consistent releases as things finally become Normal for me. This month we'll start rolling out the Oops All Movies minisodes and by next month The Special itself should be out.

they (me) are calling it the best game ever???

definitive baxter title, one of the ultimate "i will never shut up about it" experiences, absolute brain rewriter, PLAY IT
Sales shout-out to Labyrinth Of Galleria. Lowest price ever. A Wizardry-style dungeon crawl by the Disgaea team, which means it is an absurd, maximalist monster with unhinged mechanics (kick down walls!) and you can have a 40-character party.

Also runs amazing/low-battery drain on the Steam Deck!

On the outskirts of town lies a mansion said to house the entrance to a maze overflowing with treasure. Do you wish to discover the magical mysteries hidden inside?

story idea from years ago I'm never gonna do: an anxious teen is drawn into the world of competitive yule logging. ends with the hero team accidentally burning down a theater and being arrested, one of them laughing and yelling at the protag, "this is it, i finally found it. this is youth!"

my new year resolution is to be better at sharing and supporting people! Not just friends (but especially friends lol) but everything I like

I know I'm so brave, takes a lot of courage to hit the retweet button 😔

Not a game I mention much but I'm a HUGE Emerald Dragon (especially this version!) fan

peak rpg adventure goodness, can't get much more pure than this. Definitely give it a play!!!
Closing out 2025 with a JRPG treat! You may know fan translator Supper for his work on famous PC Engine CD RPG Tengai Makyou: Ziria. He's back with 1994's Emerald Dragon, a flashy PCE port from Linda³ developer Alfa System. https://stargood.org/trans/emdr.php

(you can skip my bit where I ramble about unlimited saga if you want lmao)

also say happy birthday! Happy birthday!!!
Hey girls. It's my birthday, it's new year's eve, but most importantly: it's buddy list day. For the fourth time, here's my annual tradition where I invite my friends to take up some space on my newsletter and talk about how they spent their year. Thanks for reading. 💜
