I'm starting to think the best thing LLMs have going for them is the willingness of very clever people to anthropomorphize whatever their output is.

The most avaricious pay gap a society should tolerate is someone at the top of an org chart making ten times their lowest employee. Even that much, said out loud, sounds demented.

Part two of my attempts to optimize the SD card performance on my 6502 breadboard computer. Did I finally hit a 10x speedup? Why yes, yes I did.

So I'm reading "Citadel of Forgotten Myths" by Michael Moorcock, and I'm not saying that this messy, pulpy, sometimes overwritten but wildly imaginative and really quite excellent Elric story is a political allegory for modern times, but I'm also not _not_ saying that...

SD cards are weird. Weird little devices with weird inconsistencies in their write timings that I do not understand.

OK did I just introduce this bug or has it been lurking in my code since last summer?

Self-promotion time! I did some work optimizing my breadboard computer and poking at it with a logic analyzer, and made a video about it. It was fun!

Resolution number 4: Get back to a more regular biking schedule. I tended more toward shorter rides this past year, and I'd like to build up my range some more. For this one I can at least wait for warmer weather before failing ;)

Three: More writing. I did pretty good in 2024 at bringing the Project Blog back to life, but I didn't do so well at working on fiction (and the whole ongoing implosion of Nanowrimo didn't help). Need to find a better balance.

Second: Make a more disciplined stab at learning to play keyboard. That includes some amount of learning/playing with Ableton & VCV Rack.

I'm going to make a bunch of new year's resolutions, in the vain hope that one of them will stick.

First up: Reduce the number of half-read books I have sitting all over the house.

Most of my hobby time in 2024 went to porting over a C library for my breadboard computer, a fun project that took... longer than intended. But the results were worthwhile, I think!
