The busiest travel day of the year, as Amtrak Midwest trains and intercity buses sell out en masse, is a great time to read @detroittransit.org's report on the state of cross-state transit in Michigan 🚆

www.detroittransit.org/cross-state-...
More than a few times now I've found that the transit nerd wikis and personal blogs of the internet have more thorough and up to date technical documentation than the actual documentation

The Michigan Flyer's most recent schedule change finally made it possible to get to Lansing from Detroit in time for Senate session.

Turning "possible" into practical with intercity transit that actually competes with driving would be a Transformational Project in my book.

Reminder that this is tomorrow for those who want to ride Route 3 to Horrocks one last time.
Disappointed to hear the millage that would've sustained the CATA Route 3 extension into Delta Township didn't get the votes tonight.

I was on the very first bus out to Horrocks two years ago. If service does end up getting cut back to Lansing Mall, I'll be on the last.

Per reports from city people in the know, GM makes its grand transport of workers from the RenCen into Hudson's next Monday. Capitol Park is about to become an even livelier place

Just gotta say, living in a walkable neighborhood with a group chat is the coolest thing.

Need a torx screwdriver? Hi, come borrow ours six doors down. Super specific hardware adapter? Person with the same hobby has a bunch. Wanna swap some peach jars for our extra coffee? Sweet, check your porch

As Metro Detroit goes to sleep, the transit data cutover team behind the curtain gets to work. Happy service change day!!
You'll hear more from official comms channels next week, but an early present for everyone: Frequency on FAST Woodward is *finally* increasing!

Preview the improved schedules for FAST Woodward, FAST Gratiot, and Route 710 (Nine Mile) on SMART's website:

Starting tomorrow and until the new facility is completed, the SMART transfer point on Water east of Saginaw will simply be called "Downtown Pontiac." Service won't be affected.

The Phoenix Center gets one final farewell tonight as buses call out its name for the last time 🌇

Well that was a year, huh?

I really only have one resolution for 2026: Travel somewhere new. I haven't left the Midwest in almost a decade and it's time we changed that.

Catch you on the flip 🚌

Transit and other normal trip planning apps: "Oh, the GTFS changed a lot. We'll queue it up and keep the current one active until its calendar end date for continuity of service"

Google Maps: "Oh, the GTFS changed a lot. Let's just delete it and show nothing until the date the new one takes effect"

If anyone still has an $82 Park & Ride pass, you can trade it in starting Mon 12/29 at the Royal Oak TC or the Buhl ticket window downtown. You'll get the difference back in DART passes.

If your pass is blue or you're using a mobile ticket, no action is needed – it'll just work.
