In our most recent meeting with the Japanese IGC representatives of CORDAP, we had the chance to learn about Japan’s efforts to conserve marine biodiversity both domestically and globally.

CORDAP is proud to announce that our Executive Director, Prof@carlosduartephd.bsky.social has been awarded the 2025 Japan Prize—one of the world’s most prestigious scientific honors—for his groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of marine ecosystems and pioneering research on blue carbon.

On Mnemba Island, in northern Unguja, Tanzania, everyone depends on corals. This has been true for many generations. The reefs support artisanal fishing and serve as a major attraction for tourists. Unfortunately, decades of overuse have severely degraded the reefs.
