One of the biggest injustices in cinema is that Charles Laughton went to his grave thinking this, his only film, was a failure. The reviews probably gaslit him into thinking it was dogshit.
It’s one of the best films ever fuckin made.

People keep likening the current mood here to the 2008-10 stretch of Twitter, but it also reminds me of Twitter about two months into Covid when everyone had gone mad and was online almost twenty-four hours, and you'd see a post get 56k likes that just said 'I am sad but have a cat'.
