Unironically one of the coolest telephone sounds out there. It's a very loud tone that goes off after your phone has been off-hook for a few minutes. It's basically just a scream to get your attention and make you hang it up lol

Istg if @commodoreofficial.bsky.social goes the route of Nintendo, which it currently seems to be, I'm gonna be so disappointed. I was excited to hear they're doing stuff with the brand but reading up on their site it seems like they will be taking down fan projects...

So the modems most people think about, "fax" modems (the little beige boxes that run at 56kbps) are considered smart modems. They have computers in them and can fully control the phone network they're attached to. The first smart modem was from 1981 or so I wanna say, literally called the Hayes smartmodem. You could type commands to change bit rates and other settings. Before that, modems were considered "dumb." Most were 300 or 110 bps. You had to use a physical phone to dial the number you wanted to call, the modem had switches to tell if it's originating or answering (as long as two modems are set differently they'll talk.) and the most advanced feature of those types were that they held the line open, meaning you could put the phone back in the cradle without it hanging up the line. Even earlier were acoustic coupling modems, where you placed the phone handset on a pair of cups with a speaker and microphone, which the modem used to communicate with the phone line.

Pac-Man uses an algorithm, not an "ai."
It is predictable and does not think. It was not trained on data.
It did not replace artists.
It uses simple math to find a target relative towards the player and moves there.
People had to use their brains to come up with this, guys. It's not rocket science.
