Man, I’m not upset I never got into drugs, but can you imagine how fucking incredible it must have been to be on stage in the 70’s with one of those like big like 20 person bands, jamming on a Joe cocker song or something just gakked to the gills

apropos of absolutely nothing but a conversation I was just having, my hottest Star Wars prequel take is that you can fix like 85% of the story problems if Maul survives Phantom Menace and Lucas used him instead of Count Dooku in the next two movies.

Just watched it for the first first time a few nights ago and have to agree. Klute, Parallax View, Presumed Innocent, Alan J. Pakula has some real bangers that no one talks about anymore. And the more films you watch shot by Gordon Willis, the better.
IMHO, the must underrated US film of the 1970s is Klute. Never discussed as top tier with the Godfathers, Taxi Driver, Chinatown etc. When discussed, it's all about Fonda. But Klute has maybe the best camera work/design of the decade, tons of improv, and politics way ahead of its time. Klute, dude.

It always bugs me when Frankenstein adaptations put his motivation as trying to “defeat death.” A. It’s not about that, it’s about creating life, not conquering death (there IS a difference), and B. If it’s about conquering death he wouldn’t need to build a body from other bodies (I would think).

I feel like tonight’s episode of #lastdrivein was made specifically for me. The battle of Argento vs. Bava goes on daily in my mind.

Bava usually wins though

Started a really interesting audiobook about 5 films from 1968 that were the forerunner to the revolution of the 70's, but the narrator pronouncing Sydney Lumet as "LUHM-ett" is bringing me to the edge of quitting.

Man, what kind of a world is this where Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein gets a limited theatrical run before being dumped to streaming (thanks to being a Netflix production), but Tron Ares gets to book all the IMAX theaters
