Cover the Colorado Avalanche for the Denver Post. Previously: Capitals, Devils, Sharks. You can’t take the sky from me.
Necas passes on a hat trick, passes the puck to Landeskog for the empty-netter. That’s the unselfish stuff right there.

6-3 #Avs
November 14, 2025 at 4:43 AM
MacKinnon to Necas, that should ice this one.

Two goals for Necas, 12 on the season. MacKinnon lost the puck, got mad, bullied a guy to get the puck back and set up a goal.

Zakhar Bardakov getting a PK shift in the final five minutes of a one-goal game for the #Avs.

At some point, there is going to be a meeting inside the Columbus hockey offices about what went wrong with the internal evaluations of Gavin Brindley.

A franchise with one best-of-7 playoff series win in 25 years can't give up that guy in a salary dump trade for the other team. Just can't.
November 14, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Gavin Brindley just came down the right wing and snapped one over UPL's shoulder.

THAT ... was a top-six forward goal. Phew. Four goals for Brindley this year. Two-point night.

And Tage Thompson scores on a one-timer from the top of the left circle. PPG for Buffalo.

3-3 game with 5:04 left in the second.
November 14, 2025 at 3:40 AM
Nathan MacKinnon got knocked down by Bo Byram and then took a full swing at Byram with his stick while seated on the ice.

Good chance that 29 is going to be a little lighter in the wallet after that one. He's in the box for slashing.
November 14, 2025 at 3:38 AM
Let's recap Landeskog's three overturned goals:

1 - BS by common sense, but offsides by a very vague interpretation of the rule. Weird one.

2 - It was offsides

3 - Drury was in the crease. UPL flop aside, it's a gray area call. Could be a goal, but not should.

Only one bad-ish call in there.
November 14, 2025 at 3:17 AM
Well, that was a weird, sloppy period of hockey.

3-2 #Avs

Five goals on 11 shots total between the two clubs. One goal disallowed, too.
November 14, 2025 at 2:53 AM
For the third time this season, a Gabe Landeskog goal does not count. It is goalie interference and the #Avs will get a penalty for a failed challenge.

1) UPL had no chance to stop that shot

2) UPL felt the contact and reacted like Drury cross-checked him ... which proved effective.
November 14, 2025 at 2:52 AM
For the fourth time this season, Gabe Landeskog has put the puck in the other team's net.

For the third time this season, it's been disallowed. this one is for goalie interference on Jack Drury, but the #Avs are challenging that it was not in fact interference on Drury.
November 14, 2025 at 2:49 AM
They have removed a Sabres shot from the board. It's now 5 goals on 10 shots in this game between the two clubs.
November 14, 2025 at 2:44 AM
Jordan Greenway shoots one through Mackenzie Blackwood from inside the left circle. Kind of an awkward play, but he'll want that one back.

3-2 #Avs

5 goals on 11 shots in this game.
November 14, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Girard to Malinski to Brindley to Colton to Nelson ... all five guys touched the puck in succession on that rush.

Brock Nelson scores and it's 3-1 #Avs.

Three goals on five shots for the Avs.
November 14, 2025 at 2:31 AM
Sabres get one back. Blackwood thought he had the puck covered, but it got away from him and old friend Bo Byram stuffed it inside the right post.

2-1 #Avs
November 14, 2025 at 2:28 AM
The Sabres played last night, and Utah scored four times in the third period to win, 5-2.

So that's six goals in fewer in 27 minutes.

Hadn't really thought about this, but as Utah continues its rise ... the Salt Lake-Denver back-to-back is going to be rough for some East coast clubs.
November 14, 2025 at 2:27 AM
The Sabres are changing goalies and Lindy Ruff is having some animated words for his team on the bench.

It's 2-0 #Avs. Two goals on three shots, in 6:12.

November 14, 2025 at 2:22 AM
Artturi Lehkonen, listed at 5-11 and 179 pounds, just forechecked Mattias Samuelsson, listed at 6-4 and 229 pounds, with one arm and shoveled the puck in front with his other arm holding his stick.

Oh, and he scored later in the shift, too.

November 14, 2025 at 2:21 AM
For the third time since he signed the new contract, the $92 million man has scored on his first shift of the game.

#Avs quickly transitioned after a Sabres dump-in and Martin Necas was all alone out in front of the Buffalo players. That's 11 for him this year.

If the #Avs win tonight, they will tie a franchise record with 29 points after 18 games.

The 2000-01 team was 13-2-3. That team finished the season with a parade.

The 2013-14 edition and the 1994-95 team (last year in Quebec City) both had 28 points after 18 games.

Before Rebecca Yarros created a global phenomenon with Violet Sorrengail and friends, she was an #Avs fan and a hockey mom in Colorado Springs.

Her two worlds collide tonight with Fourth Wing night at Ball Arena.

Busy morning at Ball Arena …

#Avs sign Scott Wedgewood to a one-year extension. Valeri Nichushkin is out a handful of games, at least. Samuel Girard is back after missing almost five weeks. Gavin Brindley is a top-six forward now.

Scott Wedgewood didn’t need a full calendar year to show the Colorado Avalanche why the club should want to keep him around.

The #Avs have signed Scott Wedgewood to a one-year extension. He was set to be a UFA at season’s end.
November 13, 2025 at 6:21 PM
#Avs coach Jared Bednar said Val Nichushkin “will miss some time” but they don’t know how long yet. He’s away from the facility today getting evaluated.

Also said Mackenzie Blackwood will start tomorrow against Buffalo.
November 12, 2025 at 7:00 PM
#Avs weren’t particularly sharp tonight.

And they just beat the hottest team in the league that was second in the NHL standings by three goals.

Avs are 11-1-5.
