More realistically tho there is cost to launching an act of aggression against Greenland, that cost gets higher if Danish soldiers die in the assault and is even higher if British, German, French etc. troops die as well.

I just love the implication that the provinces would be admitted as separate states because, while it makes a lot of sense, it also means the republicans would gain at most 3-5 new US senators, the dems would gain like 15-20.

Kinda? Not really. Backing down, objectively speaking, would be an option for our governments. But that's not the point here.
The point of a tripwire is to make any potential use of force more risky and thus more costly to the Americans and hope it dissuades them from using force in the first place.

I'm not disagreeing with either of you, but it's worth reminding ourselves that the point of a tripwire force is to avoid a fight. Gaming out what would happen if it was tripped presupposes it'll fail. I don't think it will fail tho.
