Yesterday the Trump admin revoked Harvard's ability to issue visas to international students. In my 6 years at HGSE, I've gotten to know, work with, and learn from many international students.

It's notable to me that in Harvard's messaging about the value of research, none of the examples come from education, or even from the social sciences. I'm curious about ways to better demonstrate the value of social science research. How can we address this?

If you, like me, are despairing about the state of our democracy, please donate to one of the orgs suing the Trump administration over its illegal actions.

Today I gave to @democracyforward.org and @aclu.org and set up a FB fundraiser to encourage friends to donate as well. Please join me!

What a surreal experience to be leading a workshop for education researchers on how to write about their research, in a building directly across from the US Capitol, and wake up to discover that the entire national education statistical staff has been fired.

I'm so proud of the presidents of my favorite professional association @aefpweb.bsky.social for standing up for education research and data. Thank you @carajackson.bsky.social @dbassok.bsky.social and Michal Kurlaender!
In this op-ed, we - the presidents of SREE and AEFP - joined forces to argue for the importance of evidence on "what works" and how cutting such funding is not "efficient" - it is wasteful. www.brookings.edu/articles/cut...

When I arrived at the Kennedy School in 1998, the only faculty member I was star-struck to meet other than William Julius Wilson was Sandy Jencks. But while I never interacted with WJW in my time there, I took a year-long course with Sandy. (1/3)

On Bluesky, I made two rules for myself:

1) I only follow education/research folks that I know personally and would do a favor for if asked, and

2) For every work-related person I follow, I must also follow a comedian, musician, or drag queen.

My feed is much improved.

One of the best things about working at HGSE is that I can truthfully tell students, "No matter which quant course you take, you'll have a great prof." If you want to join an awesome team of quant faculty in a teaching-intensive role, you can't do better than HGSE. Please apply!
We're hiring a multi-year lecturer in Applied Quant Methods at HGSE! Help us advance a 40-year tradition of excellent quant instruction started by Willett, Singer & Murnane and continuing through McIntyre, Eidelman, Miratrix, et al. apply.interfolio.com/137713
