A member of the Cult of the Outsider writes by candlelight in the library of the cult hideout within Shindaerey North Quarry. Stone growths are noticeable on her face and hand and she is visibly exhausted. An Envisioned lurks just behind her, motionlessly watching her write with half of its body obscured in shadow. A hand-written note on faded paper containing the following text: “They never paid us any mind before, but lately this one follows me. It watches me write. It watches me sleep. It stands over my cot as the stone bursts new fissures through my skin, pairing my screams with its own gravely moans of despair. An attempt in solidarity? A warning? No matter. The only way to understand the Envisioned’s wisdom is to become one myself. Any day now… In the meantime I’ve come to appreciate the company as my body grows weaker. Perhaps the Outsider himself granted me this usher. Perhaps in my steadfast suffering, I’ve earned his favor.”

Aramis Stilton sits in his chambers alone with his head in his hand, facing the window. A silvergraph of Theodanis Abele is hung on the wall. The butterfly, no longer silhouetted, is revealed to be a monarch butterfly. It flies across the room towards the audiograph player and lands on it. Aramis smiles with tears in his eyes. On the audiograph recording, Theodanis says, “You told me once that monarchs carry the souls of the dead, here to visit the living. And perhaps Luca’s prodding has me too focused on my age, or maybe I’m just sentimental… But after my time comes, I hope a monarch will be kind enough to grant me one more visit with you. Anyway, talk to you next week Stilton, my friend.”

My #CitizenSleeperArt entry is Arc, an extractor sleeper who I imagine escaped to an ocean planet and found their place among the deep-sea biosphere community. So excited for CS2! (Sorry for the repost, I messed up the hashtag)

While Celis ID numbers are called out and the crowd becomes restless, Lem is staring straight forward in disbelief and despair. Sleeper and Mina try to get his attention. When the crowd behind them starts to become more angry and a crash sounds out from out of view, Mina looks alarmed and Sleeper says “Lem, let’s go.” A close up view of Lem’s face is shown. He is trembling with tears in his eyes. He says, “I’m just… They might call out names… I can’t.” From out of view, Sleeper says, “It’s not happening.” Then Sleeper is shown leading Lem and Mina down a walkway, Mina with her face buried in Lem’s chest and Lem with tears streaming down his face.
