Stiff and different - Lizard osteoderm papers from a collaboration with @henrikbirkedal.bsky.social's group led by Adrian. We show a capping tissue from Heloderma that is enamel-like in mechanical properties but highly disordered in crystal pattern

This was an excellent 🐕 session @anatomyorg.bsky.social covering canine behaviour and brains, stress and welfare and anatomy of the African wild dog. 3 brilliant talks by Profs Erin Hecht, Ana Jimenez and @heatherfsmith.bsky.social.
Erin Hecht summarising work on behaviour and brains over canine evolution from wolf ancestors, commensal dogs and domestic dogs accross breeds. Ana Jimenez on oxidative stress /reactive oxygen species and stress in dogs. The relationship of lifespan and ROS in dogs over size ranges and between wolves, dogs and wolf-dogs. Heather Smith presenting work on muscles of facial expression, mastication and running in the African wild dog.
