Oh hey, so maybe I should introduce myself since there's been a huge influx of new folks? Hi! I'm co-chair for Flights of Foundry, operations manager of Dream Foundry, and co-editor of Small Wonders Magazine! I love collaborating on projects and working out logistics for anything other than dinner.
Sorry y’all I guess I really should have had those black eyed peas for a better new year after all.

New story alert! This story fought me tooth and nail to get written, but it's become perhaps my favorite short story of mine. It also contains a polarizing POV choice that, IIRC, split my writing groups. kaleidotrope.net/winter-2026/...

Our Solar System is orbiting the center of our Galaxy at about 220 km/s so in 2025 we collectively traveled something like 7 billion kilometers across the Milky Way. Once in a while, when you have a moment, it’s worthwhile to take a look around, see where you are, and appreciate how far you’ve come.

I like to start the new year as I wish to go on, so I'll be doing lots of little things today - working on projects that nourish me and put good things into the world, spending time with people I love, playing lots of games and eating nice food. May 2026 be memorable only for the best reasons!

Spent the day doing nice things with nice people and just having a lovely, low key time. A+ do recommend saying goodbye to a garbage year with good memories and feelings to start the next, hopefully better, stretch of time.

I think it's worth calling out that some music applications of AI are way ahead of the big-name LLMs in terms of addressing the problems with AI

Just for the record, no, you do not NEED to use AI to put on a convention. Automation is not AI. You can do wonderful things with automation and a small team. Relying on spicy auto-complete to write, edit, market, or (argh noooo) SCHEDULE things for your convention is a disaster waiting to happen.

Solid prognostication right here, me mateys.
I'm tired of being surprised by news, so I just went ahead and predicted the publishing news for the next year, month by month.

Whatever you celebrate, may you have the courage to take the first steps to defy and endure against the dark, and rekindle light into the world.

The real lesson of a Muppet Christmas Carol is to live your life in such a way that wandering groups of muppets won’t be inspired to sing songs about how awful you are. I’m nailing it.

It's been announced elsewhere, so I feel I can talk about it a bit here: I'm retiring from the Dream Foundry operations manager position! This is, unequivocally, a good thing.

I helped found the Dream Foundry with the full expectation that I'd put heart and soul in it. And I have. But...

Today I acquired a buche de noel (and it is GORGEOUS) and a cranberry coffee cake and a lot of fancy chocolates and a quiche, and then untangled icicle lights and hung them, and then made room for presents and wrapped them and then did some Small Wonders work and NOW I'm merry and bright, dammit.
