Mr Toothe (some kind of Dickensian nominative determinist, clearly) said to the primary school kids at the open evening, as his opening gambit, "I just want you to know that all the scary rumours you've heard about this school from the older children.. ARE TRUE."

The thing that really gets me about this is that Mossbourne is not seen as beyond the pale by DfE or Ofsted, quite the contrary. They should be investigating how widespread this problem is and putting a stop to it.

‘A school environment characterised by a profound lack of empathy’

My only surprise about this depressing report is how long it has taken for the dark side of the Mossbourne cult to be acknowledged. A lack of care and respect for children was written into the formula and celebrated from day one.

Whilst there's justifiable outrage at what's been going on at Mossbourne

Perhaps the bigger question should be focused on Ofsted, who went in & found it outstanding

In the same way schools who were "flattening the grass" or accused of off-rolling, still got outstanding

Ofsted failed to find fault

The case review of Mossbourne is balanced, but I think it really shows that the journalists who pursued the story (especially @annafazack.bsky.social for The Observer) were wholly right to do so and the concern for childrens' wellbeing was justified.

The DfE's behaviour ambassador seems not to be acknowledging any issues with what was reported at Mossbourne VPA, other than the catch-all "there may well be issues" line towards the end of this piece: bennettt.substack.com/p/if-there-a...
If there are witches here, we’ll find them. And if there aren’t…we’ll find them anyway.
A recent hit-job on Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy succeeds in being reported as if it’s a credible analysis. It's anything but.

Shocking, but sadly unsurprising. @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social needs to get to grips with this bullying culture, which is fashionable in far too many schools. It's nothing short of abusive.

In 2023 Ofsted rated Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy Outstanding in all areas. This week it suddenly discovers the "inflexible" behaviour policies, which it has encouraged and praised for years, harm children - as many of us have repeatedly pointed out. This dreadful organisation needs to go. NOW.

And which government behaviour adviser Tom Bennett publicly lambasted the journalist for revealing at the time, because why even pause for a second to consider the actual accusations themselves when you can just try and machine-gun the messenger

The damning review of Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy has wider implications for 'zero-tolerance' behaviour policies.

Shouting at students was "routine", a "climate of fear" was created for staff & students, and SEND adjustments were "inadequate".

I am utterly unconvinced that there is anything remotely "successful" about this school. A lifetime of potential mental health problems for the sake of a few GCSE passes that noone even asks about down the line. Absolutely shocking.
