But, really, do we want to make kids feel guilty for the thought crime of simply wanting something someone else has? If that’s important in *your* religion, I guess, go for it. But leave the rest of us out of it.

The final of the 10 commandments South Carolina proposes to post in public schools demands those kids not covet wives, slaves, cattle, etc. After all, all women and some men were simply property during Biblical times.

After the census, 435 congressional seats are allocated among states based on population, with each district containing an approximately equal number of people. This means that states with greater populations have more representation in the US Congress. #civics

Denmark Vesey was a free Black man in Charleston who planned a slave revolt here. Unfortunately, the plot was foiled. Vesey was also a founder of Mother Emanuel AME church here in Charleston!

What's the term limit for a US Senator or US Representative? There aren't any term limits. Do you think that's a good idea? #civics

“Thou shalt not steal.” This is a pretty good rule, but I’m also certain that kids learn this in kindergarten. The ten commandments have no place in public schools.

We’re currently rewatching West Wing and are impatiently waiting to see that remarkable scene! West Wing is great for 1st Amendment issues. And we love @bradleywhitford.bsky.social

In any case, this commandment is a religious one, so it violates the 1st Amendment. Keep the ten commandments out of public schools.

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Is this really a problem in our schools? I mean, you can get married at 16 in South Carolina, so we suppose it it could be relevant to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors.

“Thou shalt not kill.” Now we’re at least getting to something many of us can agree upon. Then again, so many people kill animals. South Carolina even kills humans, most recently with a firing squad. Let’s keep the 10 commandments out of public schools.
