Hello! 👋🏻

Mr. Burton. I didn't go to see this at the cinema as it looked like one of those cosy, inoffensive, bland, underpowered British films that we do so well. Caught it on the TV and it was all of those things and more. Solid. Well made. I found Richard Burton's Wikipedia entry more interesting. #FilmSky

I am trying to break up my style a little bit, see where it goes. This is where it went. Im not a huge fan of the name, but thats what it told me it was and was quite adamant. So...

Bugonia Probably the most straightforward Lanthimos film I've seen. I would've preferred a more ambiguous conclusion but then that would've been the obvious thing to do. That it ended the way it did, diminished it somewhat for me. Still, a funny and witty film with top perf’s all round. #FilmSky

Interesting watching the peerless Edge of Darkness & the surprisingly excellent Murder Before Evensong. The latter set in the same period as the former. What's missing in the latter? Smoking! Nearly everyone is puffing away in EoD. Only 2 working class characters are doing so in MBE. Bowdlerisation?
Edge of Darkness - Series 1: 1. Compassionate Leave
Thriller set in a world of obsessive state security. Ronald Craven is haunted by the murder of his daughter and begins his own investigation into her death.

Frankenstein (2025) Leaving aside the issue I have with GdT's films – over-cooked design – this was a wonderfully dark & disturbing adult fairy tale with a surprisingly moving Creature courtesy of Elordi's excellent perf’. More films should end with walking off into the sunset/rise. 1/2

I Saw A Man by Owen Sheers. Took me ages to read as I found it v unpickupable. Beautifully written with many striking poetic similes but it was too long & rambling. 50% could've been chopped out with no detriment to the story – although that may have upended the subtly clever conclusion. #BookSky 💙📚

Mmmm... All sorts of primal fears and flight instincts bubbled up within me while walking under Castletown's heron sculpture.

There was a time when humans, and our evolutionary ancestors, had to deal with such creatures. Quite disturbing.

One Battle After Another. I wasn't going to bother but Derby QUAD extended its run & the buzz tempted me. Manic & frenzied with many LOL moments. DiCaprio was hilarious. Ridiculously messy like most PTA films but it hangs together brilliantly. Penn's gonna gerra lorra noms. #FilmSky

Sing-A-Long-A-Wicker-Man at Derby QUAD. Deeply disrespectful and contemptible mockery of a beloved film o' mine. How dare they! I have to say, it was great fun... Right until the brutal tonal shift at the end. The loving mockery suddenly felt awkward. 😳

Here at Derby QUAD for the deeply disrespectful 😤 Sing-a-long-a-Wicker-Man. There are some fantastic costumes here tonight including a bloke with a wicker bin on his head – genius. But this lady takes the metatextual gobstopper! 🤩 #FilmSky #TheWickerMan

Nosferatu X Radiohead Silents Synced. I thought this kind of worked. Most of the time. Sometimes the music was distracting. Many times the music worked well with what was happening on screen. What I wasn't too keen on were the added VFX. Some were ok but others were intrusive & over-cooked. #FilmSky

Dead of Winter. Came for the Snow porn & Thompson. Wasn't disappointed by either. I did wonder why a Brit actor would get this part. Wasn't McDormand available? The story seemed to stretch credibility too. But it was an old-fashioned edge-of-your-seat thriller & Thompson *was* excellent. #FilmSky
