Thanks for these nucleons socks, @epicypher.bsky.social! They were a great hit with the lab! Merch store…? 👀

Got a light dusting here in Minneapolis today. To think that just two days ago I was in Cancun… 😂😅

Happening in 1 hour; join us!
I'm hosting Dr. Nicolas Young from Baylor College of Medicine for our BMBB seminar this week. UMN folks, if you're interested in stellar histone PTM mass spectrometry and chromatin regulation, come check out this seminar at 10AM on Wednesday 10/1 in Moos 1-450!

The Jain Lab did its first radioactive methylation assay last week and it worked! My students did balk at the "old" scintillation counter and dot matrix printer, but to me it was like coming home. #tritium #methylation #newPI

I went to the Minnesota State Fair today with the lab. Finally, I see what all the fuss was about! A fun summer afternoon indeed (and lots of fried food)!

Any advice for lab meeting formats for a new lab (i.e. 4 people, 8 months in)? I feel like weekly data presentation meetings are a bit too much for right now, but then don't know what else to do other than journal clubs. I already have individual meetings with my people.

The Jain Lab celebrated the close of its first summer of research yesterday; what a productive and exciting summer it’s been! I can’t believe it’s already been 8 months… 😅

Excited to announce the publication of my last paper from the Strahl Lab in @narjournal.bsky.social. Here we show that PHRF1-H3 N-terminal binding is crucial in mediating efficient DNA damage repair. Lots more to come from the Jain Lab on this in the coming years! academic.oup.com/nar/article-...
Histone H3 N-terminal recognition by the PHD finger of PHRF1 is required for proper DNA damage response
Abstract. Plant homeodomain (PHD) fingers are critical effectors of histone post-translational modifications (PTMs), regulating gene expression and genome

The lab is growing and we had our first lab meeting yesterday! #newPI

The Jain Lab purified its first protein today! This feels like such a milestone and I’m incredibly grateful to benefit from the years of wisdom and training I received from folks along the way. My lab manager did an excellent job here! #NewPI

New PIs: when do you find time to read papers? Asking for a friend.

One day, people sending me emails (especially sales reps) will realize that Jain is my last name, not my first name. Even after I correct them... so many "Dear Jain" emails 🫠

Cell culture is up and running in the Jain Lab! #NewPI

#ASBMB25 was just what I needed. I gave a talk (first conference talk as a PI), saw even more amazing science from colleagues, and made some great connections! Now time to get back to the lab and get cracking on all these new ideas!

About to get on an early flight heading to Chicago for #ASBMB25! My first conference as a PI and I'm giving a talk too! Would love to meet up with folks while there; shoot a message if you'll be at the meeting! #NewPI

Thanks for the invitation! It was wonderful meeting faculty, students, and staff at UND! Such a cool epigenetics hub :) and thank you to @adhasarathy.bsky.social in particular for hosting and this lovely poem!
A trio of domains has PHRF1,
Each with unique work to be done.
RING tags proteins for trash,
PHD reads H3 in a flash,
And SRI grips Pol II for fun!

Awesome seminar by Kanishk Jain in our seminar series today! @chromajain.bsky.social

Tiffany and Mike unboxing and ordering new items for the lab! I think we’re covered on serological pipettes for a while now! 😅 #newPI

A busy and momentous week for the Jain Lab! We did our first bit of science (minipreps 😅) and the lab grew with joining of its first two members: research staff Tiffany Engel and Michael Lent!

Stood up for science today at the Minnesota state capitol. Regardless of our personal beliefs, I think we can agree science is a unifying force that betters the lives of all of us. #standupforscience
