I normally don’t rejoice at people being fired. But today, I’ll make an exception.
Nico Harrison is no longer the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks are firing Harrison on Tuesday, a person familiar with the decision told The Dallas Morning News, after four seasons, one NBA Finals appearance and one franchise-altering trade.

When I was 12, even then frustrated with the Rangers, I started watching the Chicago Cubs on WGN. Among great players like Leon Durham and Rick Sutcliffe, Ryne Sandberg stood out. He could field like no one else and then hit one over the ivy when it counted.

Sad to hear he’s gone. Cancer sucks.

I began 2024 sick. Since then, I went to Ohio and New Orleans twice, California and Iowa once, saw a frozen pipe flood our house, see it get renovated, saw one nephew engaged and another graduate high school, then saw my students win college media’s best awards. Not bad, but here’s to a better 2025.
